"Before I Sing" is the debut full length album by D.V.S* released on October 20th, 2009.
This electronica release is a collection of thoughts and feelings from all the Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, and Motown bands I've performed or recorded with over the past few years.
As time rolls on, every time I take a "guitar solo" on stage or in the studio, I find myself becoming much more preoccupied with creating a group "Musical Event," than "Shredding" ...although occasionally they are one in the same. This philosophy has filtered into my compositions.
A few years ago, I was in a jam session with music guru Art Lande. He made me take a solo over a tune, and every time he sensed I was playing from my head and not my heart, I had to start at the top all over again.
I try to take that nugget of wisdom and apply it to all my musical situations these days, no matter the style, hype, buzz, pressure, venue, band, crowd, or whatever....
The title of this release is dedicated to that idea....and named after the old gospel tune "Before I Sing (I Must Feel)."

Over the years of listening to Emancipator, this album has grown to be my favourite. The melancholy and mysticism in it is so captivating. Amazing orchestration of all the different layers. And just lately I’ve come to realize how strongly it’s a guitar-based album.
